The Josephine Elle Hartung-Rispoli Research Laboratory is a pediatric cancer research facility located at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital within the Hackensack Meridian Health network in New Jersey.
It was established to honor 7-year-old Josephine, who passed away from a rare brain tumor.
Here are the key details about the research lab and its mission:
• Focus: The lab is dedicated to pediatric oncology research, specifically focusing on childhood brain tumors.
• Clinical Trials: It is notable for being the first lab of its kind in New Jersey to directly facilitate Phase 1 andPhase 2 clinical trials in the search for a pediatric cancer cure.
• Origin: Following her daughter's diagnosis, Heidi Hartung-Rispoli founded the Josephine's Garden
Fund. The fund first established a therapeutic rooftop oasis called Josephine's Garden and subsequently raised the necessary
funds to launch the dedicated research laboratory in 2015.
• Location: The lab is situated on the pediatric inpatient floor of the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center.
